Rick Willard, Board Chairman
In the shadow of the horrendous 9/11 events, several charitable minded people convened in Philadelphia just prior to the start of conflict in IRAQ and Afghanistan. With the shocking loss of life for all of the 911 first responders, several reports of the stress induced by the loss of the chief breadwinner surfaced around the region. From the feedback of the attendees at the meeting, the first vestiges of the Volunteer Firefighter’s Rapid Response Network came to being. The design was unique and most of this can be attributed to the creative approach of Rick Willard.
Combining tax favored donations with an individual donor advised foundation was unique. Rick developed the idea further. The LODD Foundation concept was the result. Rick pressed on, and beginning with the development of the increasingly innovative internet and social media, as well as mobile applications for the movement of money, a new team of collaborators have brought powerful enhancements to Rick’s foundational ideas. Rick graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH in 1972 with a BA in Speech and Communications and a minor in Biology. For 20+ years he was an active working family member at their business, Comstock, Ferre & Co. of Wethersfield, which is the oldest US Seed Company in continuous operation today. The company was sold in 1992 and since then Rick has been an independent insurance broker in the Hartford area.
